We will be in arriving in Panama late September/early October (self, wife, 9yr old and 6yr old).
It's hard to tell from the internet but ADM looks like it might be the place for us; like Juneau Alaska without the winters, lots of nature + trails.
We enjoyed Costa Rica immensely but we've been convinced to give Panama a try for comparison before settling down.
Can anybody comment on the community/socialization feel of ADM? How about nearby towns?
Are there many children living full-time in ADM?
It looks like there's a good group of people there in ADM; thanks to all those who have gone ahead of us and for the insight you provide from your experiences.
The full-time community in ADM is made up mostly of retired folks. My wife and I, at 48, will be amongst the youngest. There are a few kids, but not many.
However, the "weekender" community is made up mostly of younger Panamanian families.
Excellent about the weekender Panamanian community; we've had our kids in a Spanish immersion public school program to get them ready for our move to Central America.
The retiree crowd will probably suit my style, I like it calm and quiet for the most part.
Thanks for the quick response and for putting up this great site.
I found the video "Dancing" on your blog and commented to my wife that people who enjoy and find meaning in that video are the kind of people I'd like to have for neighbors. Hopefully we'll bump into each other someday.
I think you will fit right in. Most of the people in ADM like to mix with local population and many do volunteer work to help Panamanians.
Hope to meet you someday. We will be visiting our construction site in Panama first week of September, and we're hoping to be back permanently by January.
